Two BCCC students receive Bunyan Ruritan scholarships

Two students have been awarded the Bunyan Ruritan Civic Club Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this year. They are Jamie Lynn Respess and James R. Shrader.

Respess, 18, of Pinetown, left, is seeking an associate’s degree in general education from BCCC. A graduate of Northside High School, she is the daughter of Chris and Noel Respess of Pinetown. She is employed at Blackbeard’s Slices and Ices.

“This is such an honor to receive a scholarship,” she said. “And it is greatly appreciated.”

Shrader, 57, right, is a student in BCCC’s Human Services Technology Program. He attended Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Calif., and earned a General Educational Development, or GED, before enrolling in BCCC. He hopes to continue his studies and work with at-risk teens after graduating from BCCC.

“I want to thank the Bunyan Ruritan Club for providing this scholarship and all who have helped me get back into the swing of school,” he said.

The scholarships are awarded from contributions made annually by the Bunyan Ruritan Club to BCCC. Bunyan Ruritan is part of a national civic organization dedicated to identifying and addressing the needs of local communities. The Bunyan Ruritan Club has been helping their community since 1952.
