Lawrence Satchell |
Lawrence Satchell, a student in the Welding Program at
Beaufort County Community College, has been chosen to receive a scholarship
named in memory of James “Wyatt” Respess Blanks.
A graduate of John A. Wilkinson High
School, Satchell, of Washington, plans to get a job in his field after
graduating from BCCC. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children.
“I thank the family of Wyatt Blanks
very much for their generosity and support,” he said. “I will work hard and I
hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as the
donors of this scholarship have helped me.”
The James “Wyatt”
Respess Blanks Scholarship is an award funded through the James “Wyatt” Respess
Blanks Memorial Endowment, established with generous contributions from Wyatt’s
friends and family after his death. Through the endowment, a scholarship will
be awarded to a BCCC student pursuing an associate’s degree who has at least a
2.5 grade point average. If the student maintains their grade point average,
the scholarship can be renewed for a second year.
