Harley Hudson has been chosen to
receive the scholarship awarded from contributions to an endowment at Beaufort
County Community College by residents of Cypress Landing.
Hudson, 18, of Washington is enrolled
in general college courses at BCCC with plans to transfer to a four-year
university to study physical therapy. A graduate of Washington High School,
Hudson is employed at First South Bank. She is the daughter of Leonard and
Emily Hudson.
“I thank the Cypress Landing
Homeowners Association for their very generous donation,” she said. “It is
going to help me a lot with my first year of college and help me further my
education.”
In 2007, the Cypress Landing Homeowners Association
raised money among its members to create a $5,000 endowment to provide a
scholarship for a student to attend BCCC. Since that time, the endowment has
grown to over $30,000 thanks to numerous and generous contributions from the
association’s members. Mrs. Helen Sommerkamp Inman and Mr. Chris Harris led the
initial effort to organize the campaign. This scholarship is awarded to a BCCC
