Woodmen
of the World Lodge 623 recently contributed to Beaufort County Community
College’s digital sign campaign in memory of former lodge member, Jack Clayton.
A native of Hyde County, Clayton served in the U.S. Army, Air Force and
National Guard and worked as a journeyman meat cutter for several area grocery
stores. Clayton served as President of the Woodman of the World Lodge 623 and
was active in the organization’s activities before his death earlier this year.
He was also active in other community organizations including the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, the Bunyan Ruritan Club and was a scout master. Pictured, second
from left, Garland Woolard, secretary of the lodge, presents a check to BCCC
President Barbara Tansey while Audrey Woolard, at left, displays a photo of
Clayton. BCCC Foundation Director Judy Jennette holds an architectural
rendering of the sign by John Farcas. When built, the sign will be located at
the front of the campus along U.S. Highway 264.
